At their November 18th meeting, the Poolesville Town Commissioners voted unanimously to endorse the Montgomery County School's installation of a turf field at Poolesville High School's Howard Lyles Stadium.
The support for a turf field did not come easy as the Commissioners reviewed multiple documents over several days, interviewed industry and environmental experts, and reviewed our own proactive and Maryland-leading PFAS treatment actions that have been adopted in order to ensure a safe and healthy water supply for our residents.
In the end, the Commissioners felt the installation of a turf field, through a targeted and very specific commitment by MCPS officials, will provide the most equitable and safety-oriented approach for field use, not only for PHS athletes but for the overall community as well. The installation of a water-conserving turf field, along with the required recapture and treatment of stormwater run-off, are consistent with Poolesville's stringent and specifically codified, environmentally conservative, long-term direction.
