Dear Western County residents and parents of Poolesville High School students:
As most of you know, the Fair Access Committee for Western Montgomery County Committee has been working for more than a year to secure commitments from the county government and the school system to completely rebuild and modernize Poolesville High School and collocate with the new school a community/senior center, clinic/wellness center, and police satellite station.
We have made a great deal of progress in reaching these goals and have the attention of county leaders. As you can see in the timeline attached to this email, the County Executive has included funding in this year's budget to examine the services needs and requirements of our area. The school system has recommended that Poolesville High School be considered a "major capital" project.
But all of this is still just “recommended.” As you know only too well, we have been here before – too many times. Time is critical as you can see in the attached timeline. Important decisions will be made by the county in October that will determine whether a new high school is fully funded in the upcoming capital budget and whether planning work moves forward this year on the community/senior center, clinic/wellness center, and police satellite station we have been advocating.
It is past time for Montgomery County leaders to treat its western county residents and PHS students fairly. Experience shows that if we don't make our needs clear and raise our voices as loud and often as we can, we may well see our proposals shunted aside or delayed once again.
You have been with us as we have worked to make our needs a priority for the county. Now we need you to let our county leaders know it is time to act and commit to rebuilding our high school along with collocated facilities for a community/senior center, clinic/wellness center, and police satellite station. You can write to our County Executive, our County Council members, our Board of Education members, and our Superintendent.
