Now in its fifth year, the annual WUMCO Walk and Fall Festival has something for everyone. This fundraiser for local up-county help organization, WUMCO Help, raises funds for the organization through a mini-walk and fall themed festival. For the second year, the event is being promoted with a Community Scarecrow Contest. Scarecrows are displayed on Whalen Commons in Poolesville, where they can be seen by all. Voting is done online during the weeks leading up to the festival, which will be Saturday, October 25th, noon to 4:00 PM. There will be additional voting at the event for the “Best of the Fest”.
In addition to the scarecrow contest, there are activities for all ages at the Festival. The mini-walk starts at noon, with registration forms available on line. Walker Registration on the day of the event begins at 11:30. There is a costume contest for kids and dogs and a best beard contest. There is a great variety of fall themed crafts and activities for children of all ages. All these activities are included with the purchase of a $5 wristband. There are also activities for older folks for a small fee, plus food and craft vendors, DJ Val from noon to 2 PM and live music from 2 PM to 4 PM. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the Festival go to WUMCO Help. More information about the organization as well as Walker registration forms, Vendor applications and Scarecrow Voting are available on the WUMCO website at www.wumcohelp.org .
