[ARCHIVED] Disc Dog Competition

This year's event will be a Classic style qualifier for the 2017 Hyperflite/Skyhoundz Disc Dog Classic World Championship at Coolidge Park in Chattanooga TN in late September. 


A CLASSIC style competition is a multi-round event where dog/handler teams will showcase their abilities in various combinations of freestyle and/or distance/accuracy (toss & fetch) rounds. Winners are determined by cumulative scoring.


Freestyle is a 90-second, free-form or sequenced routine with a musical backdrop scored by judges using the Skyhoundz P.A.W.S. Judging System... Presentation, Athleticism, WOW-Factor, & Success. Emphasis is placed on success, variety, innovation, and the athletic skills of the canine and thrower. Competitors can use up to five discs in their Freestyle routine.

Distance/Accuracy (D/A or D&A) is a fast-paced ro und of toss/fetch in which teams attempt to score points by completing as many catches as possible in various scoring zones within 60 seconds.

Divisions offered will be:


Open Division [2 Freestyle rds/1 D/A rd]

- Expert (open to all competitors)

- MicroDog (dogs UNDER 17 inches)

- Youth (handlers UNDER 16yo in 2017)

- Novice** (new handlers who never qualified before)

- Masters** (dogs 9yo or older)


Sport Division [2 D/A rds]

- Expert (open to all competitors)

- MicroDog (open to dogs UNDER 17 inches)

- Novice** (new handlers who never qualified before)

- Masters** (dogs 9yo or older)


Pairs Freestyle Division [1 Freestyle rd]

- open to 2 handlers with one dog

The competition will be hosted by the Mid Atlantic Disc Dogs (www.mad-dogs.org) and is SPONSORED by Nutramax Laboratories, Inc. (www.nutramaxlabs.com), makers of Cosequin, Dasuquin, & Cosamin joint suppements for canines, felines, equines, and humans.


Event check-in for competitors is at 8am and competition begins at 9am. Spectators and their dogs are welcome. Spectators are advised to bring water and sha de accommodations for their dogs.  DOGS MUST BE LEASHED AT ALL TIMES UNLESS A REGISTERED COMPETITOR ON COMPETITION FIELD OR PRACTICE AREA.
