Yard Waste Picture

Yard Waste Rules

As residents start their spring cleaning, we want to remind you of the rules regarding yard waste.

Yard Waste - collection is every Wednesday. Yard waste must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags or labeled reusable containers.  Dirt, root balls, and mulch will not be picked up.

  • Yard waste includes anything that grows naturally or falls from a tree
  • Placed in either yard waste bags or a reusable labeled container, not exceeding 45 lbs
  • Branches less than 4 inches in diameter must be bundled in twine; bundles cannot be longer than 4 feet and 30 inches in diameter
  • Christmas trees will be picked up every Wednesday in January
  • No rocks, dirt, mulch, sawdust, sod, root balls, tree stumps, or lumber accepted.
Hydrant Flushing

FIRE HYDRANT FLUSHING

The Water Department will be flushing hydrants in April to reduce and remove rust and iron accumulation in the water mains. The flushing may cause discolored water due to loose sediment, and we advise residents not to wash white clothes for 24 hours after the flushing.

The schedule will be as follows:

April 13: Elizabeth's Delight, Tama, Woods of Tama, Brightwell Crossing

April 15-17: Westerly, Bennett Way, Meadowlark Manor, Westerly Grove, Hunters Run

April 20-21: Fisher Avenue, Meadow Valley, Wootton Heights

April 23:  Wesmond, Wootton Woods

April 27:  Seneca Chase, Sumner Ridge, Stoney Springs

Pedestrian Safety

Pedestrian Safety

With warmer weather, there will be more pedestrians on Town roads, so we wanted to provide some safety tips. For more tips like this, check out the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Website: Pedestrian Safety: Prevent Pedestrian Crashes | NHTSA

1. Follow the rules of the road and obey signs and signals.

2. Walk on sidewalks whenever they are available.

3. If there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic as far from traffic as possible.

4. Cross streets at crosswalks or intersections. Look for cars in all directions, including those turning left or right.

5. If a crosswalk or intersection is not available, locate a well-lit area where you have the best view of traffic. Wait for a gap in traffic that allows enough time to cross safely; continue watching for traffic as you cross.

6. Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways or backing up in parking lots.

7. Avoid alcohol and drugs when walking; they impair your abilities and your judgment.

8. Embrace walking as a healthy form of transportation - get up, get out, and get moving.
