Volunteers Needed

Call for Volunteers: Flag Design Committee

The Town of Poolesville is retiring the old outdated Town Flag and creating a new flag that represents the many things that make Poolesville great. To that end, we are seeking five dedicated residents to volunteer their time and expertise. This committee will play a vital role in creating a flag that truly represents our community.

Committee Objective

The primary objective of the Flag Design Committee will be to design a flag that adheres to the established standards set by the North American Vexillological Association (NAVA) and as outlined in their guide, "Good Flag, Bad Flag."

Flag Design Standards

To assist the committee in its task, here is a summary of the key design principles outlined by NAVA:

  • Keep It Simple: The flag should be so simple that a child can draw it from memory.

  • Use Meaningful Symbolism: The flag's images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes.

  • Use 2 or 3 Basic Colors: Limit the number of colors on the flag to three, which contrast well and come from the standard color set.

  • No Lettering or Seals: Never use writing of any kind or an organization's seal.

  • Be Distinctive or Be Related: Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections.

Volunteer Responsibilities

Committee members will be responsible for:

  • Attending regular meetings to discuss design concepts and progress.

  • Collaborating with other committee members to develop flag designs.

  • Presenting design proposals and incorporating feedback.

  • Ensuring that all designs align with the NAVA standards.

  • The goal is to have a new flag by Poolesville Day.
