Small Cells in Maryland

Several municipalities in the State have already enacted an ordinance dealing with small cells, and more are pending or in draft form. Many of these ordinances contain provisions that lay out the process by which a wireless company can obtain access to a public ROW, deploying their equipment, and what they can look like. While it is important to have a process in place, the aesthetics aspect will likely be an important tool for the municipalities in this area regardless of the outcome of the FCC Order and State legislation. It is critical to adopt a set of aesthetics standards so that future small cell applications can be evaluated based on the criteria in the aesthetic standards. It is imperative that the state legislators hear from their constituents.
